"...Even though many think I am full of confidence and have no fear, walking into that studio was a huge step for me. I knew no one, it was a community I had no experience with. Wow, I had never walked into a community so welcoming and encouraging. The studio became my second home. I went all the time (60 days straight when I first started). I have never looked back. Within two weeks my hip pain was completely gone. It was something I had lived with for almost two years after having Breanna. In addition, my wrists were always hurting. Within a couple days of this practice that pain went away. Within a month my family was saying “who are you?’ I became much more calm and just ready to deal with the world. "

"Four years ago I left my twelve year career as an Engineer and Manager at Sandia National Laboratory to stay home with our two young children. After about a year of being a full time parent, I kind of lost touch with who I am – often only referred to as "Lauren's Mom", or "Halie’s Mom" or even just “Mom” by strangers. Practicing Bikram yoga helped me reconnect to myself and what I needed. After six months of practicing Bikram yoga I knew becoming a Bikram yoga teacher was something I really want to do."

"...While seriously involved with practicing Ashtanga yoga I was told by a fellow ashtangi about Bikram yoga and it was suggested that I would probably like Bikram yoga. Ashtanga yoga is also very physically demaning. I researched it and found out that the first Albuquerque studio was scheduled to open in October of 2003. I was at the front door when David Rogers opened the studio for it's first class and basically haven't looked back since. I have taken over 1000 Bikram classes and eventually decided to take the next step and go to teacher training. Teacher training is another whole story in and of itself."

"...The cello and I have been together for over 16 years – until recently, it was my one and only true love. Unfortunately (and fortunately) the cello has proven to be, at times, a harsh mistress, and it was when I was studying music in college that I realized just how painful true love can be: In 2004 I ruptured a disk in my lower back. Three years later I developed tendonitis (due to a partially-torn tendon) in my elbow... IIn doing some research I stumbled upon a website boasting that Bikram yoga could heal all different types of injuries. As luck (or something SO much more!) would have it I was traveling back to ABQ for spring break, where an amazing “Intro Special” definitely lured me into trying my first class. I attended teacher training 13 months later." |
